GLITCHES in Eskom’s central computer system caused nationwide distress at the weekend as many prepaid customers were unable to purchase electricity tokens.
Eskom spokesperson Hilary Joffe said the problem was related to the IT central system, which went off for just over on hour on Friday afternoon.
The system continued to have sporadic interruptions, she said, but by yesterday morning, it seemed to be “pretty much back to normal”.
Due to computer-related problems being experienced on their pre-paid vending system, to which all vendors who sell pre-paid electricity tokens are connected, customers experienced difficulty purchasing electricity tokens.
“We are still investigating the situation and putting remedial measures in place to prevent any recurrences,” said Josse.
“With it being month-end, the situation may have been due to high volumes of people wanting to purchase electricity vouchers.”
