THE man found dead near Jika Joe informal settlement on Wednesday is believed to have been electrocuted while relieving himself after his driving lessons at a nearby driving school.

According to police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane, an inquest docket is being investigated.

He said police received a call reporting that a body was lying in the bushes near a driving school along Masukwane Street in Pietermaritzburg. There, police found the partially decomposed body of Khayelihle Nxele (30), said Zwane.

He said a live illegal electrical connection was found near his body. It is alleged that Nxele was last seen on Monday morning, leaving his home in the Elandskop area outside Pietermaritzburg.

He was attending a driving lesson in Masukwane Street.

“It’s believed that after completing his lesson he may have gone into the bush to relieve himself when he stepped on the connection and was electrocuted, however, a post mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death,” said Zwane.

Residents in the informal settlement said they did not know who the man was.
