Elliot helps Standard make swift work of Zingari

THE Midlands Premier League resumed last weekend with all teams back in action following the festive season break.

The competition’s form side, un­defeated Standard, took on Zingari and came out on top by seven wickets to carry on where they had left off.

Zingari batted first, and they could only manage 125 all out in 45 overs.

For Zingari, Kevin Streicher was the form batsman, making 31 runs as his team struggled. KZN Inland’s Bradley Moses weighed in with figures of 4-20 while Thys van Lingen took three wickets for just 27 runs. Marcel Franzel took two wickets for 12 runs.

Standard’s response was swift as they made 126/3 in just 13.2 overs.

Robin Elliot made 75 not out, and his impressive innings included 30 runs in one over. Juan Pretorius contributed 30 runs to the total.

The competition’s other form side, Varsity, had an impressive win, beating Young Natalians by a massive nine wickets.

Batting first, Young Natalians were bowled out for 62 from 28 overs. Varsity’s Richard Hlela took three wickets for 21 runs, while Ashley Sookaloo finished with figures of 2-5.

Varsity took just 10 overs to reach the target and lost just one wicket. They finished on 66/1 and Suhail Razak made 42 not out.

In their game, Masibemunye restricted Northern Combined to 144/8 in 35 overs. Shane Fourie was the star for Northern Combined as he contributed with a score of 37

For Masibemunye, Graham Hume took two wickets for just 10 runs, while Mondle Ndlovu took two for 21, Mondle Ntshiza took two for 22, and Sibonelo Ngcobo took two for 28.

But, Masibemunye couldn’t follow a good bowling performance with a batting one as they were dismissed for just 66 in 22 overs.

Austin Mungaroo took five wickets for 18 runs while Shaldon Mungaroo took four for 25 as Northern Combined won by 86 runs. — Sports Reporter.

(Bowling: Austin Mungaroo 5-18, Shaldon Mungaroo 4-25) Northern Combined won by 86 runs.
