Empangeni: Bismarck thrills rugby club

2012-11-09 00:00

SPRINGBOK and Sharks hooker Bismarck du Plessis is back in rehabilitation training.

Attending the Empangeni Rugby Football Club annual prize-giving last night, the big man, who is missing the current Springbok tour to the United Kingdom, said he would be training today. “I am training to get my knee back up to strength,” said Du Plessis.

Du Plessis underwent surgery in August after injuring his knee in the Rugby Championship match against Argentina in Cape Town.

“It is a great honour to be here in Empangeni as the guest of honour. It is my first time here and second time in the area. I last toured the area as an U11 player,” said the 28-year-old.

Empangeni Rugby Club chairperson Simon Harvey said it was great to have a player of Du Plessis’s calibre at the prize-giving.

“To have a renowned Springbok such as Du Plessis at the club is great for the players,” said Harvey.
