Enjoy picturesque Ixopo from your mountain bike

2012-08-24 00:00

ENTRIES are open for the 16th annual Lynford Clover Super Classic MTB race that takes place on September 9 at Lynford School, Ixopo. This popular mountain bike event features spectacular views of the district and two courses, an intermediate course of 20 kilometres and an advanced course of 40 kilometres.

The 40 km Superclassic attracts some of the top names in mountain biking and was won last year by Bury Stander. This year all entrants in the Superclassic will go into the draw for a team entry into next year’s Sani2c. The event is regarded as a warm-up for the Hill2Hill which takes place the following weekend.

An easier 10 km adventure course for families should attract the not-so-serious riders looking for an enjoyable day out in the country.

Runners and walkers have a chance to participate on the Saturday in the trail run, which starts at 8 am, and consists of two loops in and out of shady forests, dairy pastures, grassland and cattle paths of picturesque Ixopo. The run provides uncongested, hilly, fairly technical running set against the beauty of Alan Paton’s “Beloved Country”. The first 10 km loop is a fast undulating run, while the second 10 km loop is a more challenging and hilly route. There will be a water point at the 10 km mark, so take camelpacks if you require extra hydration.

Other events over the weekend, which is a fundraiser for the school, include go-kart racing (Saturday night), the 100 club draw (Saturday night, so enter and stand a chance to win R50 000), the auction tent, elastic Foosball championships; motorbike enduro riding (Saturday and Sunday), on-field entertainment, supervised kids’ entertainment, giant slides, ziplines, a craft market, and a Saturday night party.

Catering and camping, as well as accommodation, are available. Pre-enter at www.roag.co.za or on the day. For more information, see www.lynford.co.za or contact 039 834 1927.
