WITNESS Open Gardens this weekend — Win prizes from Berry’s Mowers and Pools.

Once again the city’s most beautiful gardens are open this weekend and are definitely worth the visit. The Benvie garden, established 125 years ago in the Karkloof is a day’s visit on its own, with the most astounding selection of trees you could ever wish to see.

Hydrangea House in Hilton is for lovers of hydrangeas and offers teas and light lunches in a sloped garden which is in full bloom with hundreds of hydrangeas, and not to be missed are the Kitshoff and Fletcher gardens of Villa Cortina and the Shepstone Place complex in Hilton where Jocelyn Boyley will once again have artworks for sale. Right next door is Folly Hill, the garden of Sue and Mike Tarr which will also be open for meals and refreshments throughout the day and has a charming shop and nursery. The garden of Sue and James Bentley, on the Hilton College Road has extended their opening times and will also be open on the weekend of 9/10 October. Log onto The Witness www.witness.co.za for a full listing of gardens and directions. Spring also offers you a chance to win lawnmowers, trimmers and chainsaws from Berry’s Mowers and Pools who have sponsored over R19 000 in prizes! All you gave to do is SMS the answer to our competition line, or drop your entry form in at the competition box at Berry’s at 3 Peter Kerchhoff Street and you could be our next lucky winner.
