Entries picking up for next year’s Comrades

2012-09-15 00:00

ENTRIES for next year’s Comrades Marathon — an up run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg — are coming in thick and fast.

Since entries opened on September 1, the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) is pleased to announce that to date, 4 727 entries have been received.

Athletes have until November 30 to enter or until the limit of 18 000 entrants has been reached.

Anyone missing these deadlines will not be allowed to enter and the CMA has asked runners to get their entries in promtply to avoid disappointment.

Until the end of September, the cost of entry is R300, rising to R320 from October 1. Athletes from the rest of Africa pay R500 and overseas entrants pay $180 (R1 480).

Said race director Johan van Staden: “Interest in the race grows annually and we anticipate a flood of entries in the coming weeks before month-end.

“After only two weeks, we already have a quarter of the entry tally filled up. We are encouraging athletes to take advantage of the early bird fee for September, get their entries in and then be able to focus on qualifying.”

Athletes may enter Comrades before completing a qualifying race with a minimum distance of 42,2 km.

However, qualifying details must be submitted by May 6, 2013.

Entries may be completed as follows:

• Online at www.comrades.com

• At Mr Price Sport, Home and clothing stores countrywide

• By posting a completed form, with proof of payment, to PO Box 100621, Scottsville, 3209

• Handing in a completed form, with payment, at Comrades House, in Scottsville
