EPWORTH upheld their reputation as the country’s leading girls’ squash school by retaining the SA Top Schools’ Squash Championship, which was held in Pietermaritzburg at the long weekend.

Recording their 20th win, Epworth easily beat Eastern Province’s Collegiate, defeating them 5-0 in the final.

The Epworth team comprised five SA-ranked players and were head and shoulders above the rest of the competition, dropping only one match during the entire tournament.

St Mary’s from Gauteng came third, winning a closely-fought match 3-2 against Pretoria GHS (Northerns). Fifth and sixth place went to Queenstown GHS (Border) and Eunice (Free State).

Epworth squash coach Sally White was extremely proud of the Epworth girls’ performance and also commented on the high standard of squash. “With exactly four weeks until the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decides if squash can join the Olympics, it is very encouraging to see so many talented young players participating in the game,” she said.
