Erin Fourie and Mark Haze hit Ciffy’s on Sunday

2011-11-04 00:00

THIS weekend sees two top-seven Idols contestants — Erin Fourie and Mark Haze — take the stage at Cliffy’s Country Pub in Grimthorpe Avenue, Hayfields. Tickets are R100 per person and the show starts at 1 pm. Ryan Calder chatted to Fourie ahead of the show.

What’s been happening in the life of Erin Fourie since Idols?

Well, I’ve moved house, I’ve been living it up a little, working on some new covers and getting into writing some new songs too. It’s a little quiet gig-wise, but I’m trying to make the best of it ... sometimes. Sometimes I end up watching back-to-back episodes of things I missed while I was gone, like Grey’s Anatomy.

What immediate plans and shows do you have?

Hmm, not terribly much just yet I’m afraid. I was roped into a round-the-fire session over the past weekend at my brothers birthday bash. I played at the Pecanwood Oktoberfest a couple of weeks ago and I have an awesome gig coming up at Cliffy’s this weekend with Mark Haze, who I am very excited to see again. I am looking at getting into the Barnyard shows, returning to a more theatrical stage than Idols. As soon as I know, you’ll know.

Has much changed since the Idols shows? What possibilities are there?

A little bit of yes and a little bit of no. Sometimes people recognise me and it’s awesome, but I’m still not used to it and I think I tend to go into awkward-shy mode. My mom says she’s not going shopping with me any more. At the same time, life is pretty much the same.

Do you still keep in contact with the other Idols contestants?

Absolutely. They are amazing people and I am grateful for knowing them. I’m not as diligent as I should be, but I am probably most in contact with Dené, Crushanda, Mark, Chloe and Lefa. I miss them so much.

• Tickets for Sunday’s show at Cliffy’s are R100 and are available at the gate. The afternoon begins at 1 pm. For more information, phone 033 396 6710.
