Eskom: beware of power lines

2011-01-25 00:00

ESKOM has warned people to take precautions around low- hanging power lines because they can cause unnecessary deaths and injuries.

Safety, health and environment manager Moniwa Mahlangu said environmental conditions, accidents, vandalism and theft account largely for the damage sustained to power lines, which in turn prove a deadly risk.

“People living near power lines must not touch any low- hanging power lines or wires lying on the ground. Always assume they are still live. The majority of victims are children and adults must warn them of the dangers presented by electricity,” said Mahlangu in a statement.

People are encouraged to report hazardous power lines to Eskom’s number 08600 37566 or to e-mail
