Estcourt Tourism: Town steadily grows into major kzn player

2008-02-05 00:00

Estcourt is also steadily emerging as a major tourism roleplayer within the KZN context.

Chairman of the Bushmans River Tourism Association, Laurence Fenner, told The Witness that he is in the advanced stages of creating a tourism route that will hopefully be known as the "Drakensberg Route".

He has been working with Open Africa — a Cape Town-based NGO that has developed 67 tourism routes in nine countries.

"The route begins at Hidcote, goes along the R103 toward Estcourt and then covers both Giants Castle and Estcourt. It also covers Weenen, Frere, the Central Berg, Winterton and Bergville."

Fenner added that a public meeting will soon be held to confirm the final proposal and the name of the route.

Another stunning tourism development that will open in Estcourt later this month is the Kwahlangabeza Cultural Hub. The venue boasts a variety of Zulu cultural draw-cards, while also offering top quality accommodation (in the form of Bee Hive Huts) and facilities such as a restaurant and a swimming pool.
