2010-10-27 00:00

MYSTERY surrounds the circumstances of the murder of a primary school teacher in Estcourt, Annamarie Röhrs, whose body was discovered by the police lying in the veld on the Cornfields Road outside Estcourt yesterday morning.

She had been shot in the head, police said.

Egon Fortmann, a close family friend, told The Witness that Röhrs, who is in her 50s, had left school early as she was not feeling well.

“She said she was going to see a doctor, but she never arrived for her appointment.”

He said her husband, Alec, became concerned when she did not return home and contacted the police.

Police said the car which Röhrs had been driving was found in Ladysmith when they pulled the driver over for racing up and down the streets.

Fortmann said yesterday morning Röhrs’s body was found yesterday near Cornfields between Estcourt and Colenso.

Röhrs had no children of her own.

The incident was confirmed by police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.

She said that one person has been arrested and several charges are being investigated.

The charges include possession of stolen property, murder and robbery, she added.
