Eventing: KZN Juniors clean up at SA Junior Champs

2012-12-12 00:00

THE South African Junior Eventing Championships were held last weekend in Gauteng. Two teams were sent by the KwaZulu-Natal Horse Society to represent the province.

The regional 90-centimetre team was Jamie Lee McGregror, riding Hounding Rhythym; Lauren Cutting, riding Galway Emerald Sara; Guy Houston, riding Barnsley Boy; and Bernlee Waghorn, riding Galway Emerald Serrius.

The provincial one-metre team was Dani Spall, riding Rivervales Precious Penny; Leeanne Windle, riding Saddler’s Hills; Heather Macleod, riding Star Wonder; Kelsey Tattersall, riding Prince Caspian; and filling the reserve position was Rebecca Pinnell, riding Magson.

The 90-centimetre team all rode superbly over a very challenging cross-country course at Inanda Country Base and this took them into an unassailable lead over the other provinces.

Then it was the turn of the one-metre team, and they also demonstrated KZN’s eventing depth, completing the track over 30 penalties in the lead over Western Province. Gauteng filled third place and this stage.

The jumping phase was tough, but the all-girl KZN team did well to maintain first position and take the title. St Anne’s pupil Dani Spall deserved the individual champion award and the camera that came with it.
