• 7 am-11 am. The Karkloof Farmers’ Market, a fresh produce market, is located 2.6km from Howick on the Karkloof Road. Access is gained off the D507. The Karkloof Farmers’ Market runs every Saturday morning. Goods on sale include fresh produce from local farmers. There is a jungle gym and pony rides for the children so it is a wonderful morning out for the whole family. Inquiries to Andrea at 082 820 8986.

• 8 am-11.30 am. Breakfast at Lion’s River Farmers’ Market. Proceeds go to the Midlands Crisis and Trauma Centre in Howick. Inquiries to Rex at 082 771 6653.

• 9 am-noon. At Macs: wild and woolly, wild and wonderful, or not wild at all. Bring some yarn and needles, crochet if you like. Recycle abandoned projects and use up old bits of wool! • 9.30 am. A bowls clinic at Allan ­Wilson Bowling Club is held for new bowlers. Bowls are provided and flat shoes must be worn. All welcome. Coaching can be arranged at other times with Peter at 033 346 2553.

• 9 am-2 pm. Craft market opposite the city hall.

• 10 am-4 pm. Erotic Spirituality — Sacred Sensuousness for Women workshop. There will be open informal discussions, no public self examinations and a lot of fun. The workshop takes place at Poppy Palace, 8 Currys Post Road, Howick (just off the Main Road). Cost: R350. Bring and share a healthy lunch. A deposit of R150 is requested. • 10 am. The next test for membership of Mensa, the high IQ society, will be held in Westville. It costs R80 (students half-price), and candidates may leave with their results. The test is optimised for 16 years and older, it is not suitable for younger people. This is the last test that will be conducted at R80 — after this the price will be R100, and R50 for students. • 10 am. John Roff, environmental educator, has agreed to provide a hands-on experience of the remaining wilderness areas and bird parks at the Polo Grounds in Chatterton Road, with a view to their preservation and restoration. • 2 pm-6 pm. A Car Gymkhana with Drifting will be held at the Municipal Market in Mkondeni. Entry fees: adults R20, children R10. Spectators under cover from rain. No alcohol or firearms allowed. Security is ­provided.

• 10 am. The Hayfields Haymakers meet every Thursday in the Lutheran Church in Bester Road, Hayfields. Weekly sessions start with a cup of tea or coffee at 10 am, followed by a talk, demonstration, bingo or music.
