• Noon. Pietermaritzburg Orchid Society’s annual autumn show open to the public today after judging until 3 pm and on May 11 from 9 am until 3 pm. • May 16, 7pm. The Hilton Food and Wine Fair happens again at the Hilton Hotel. It is in aid of the Hilton Pre-Primary School, and is once again sponsored by Hilton KwikSpar and the Hilton Hotel. The Hilton Hotel Ballroom and Foyer will be decked out with an assortment of Food & Wines from selected Wine brands, exotic cheeses and even some Whiskey tasting. • May 20,9.15 am. The May meeting of the Hilton Garden Club will be held in the garden of John and Jacqui Arnott, "Malabar" farm, Birnam Wood. The garden is a mature, farm-style garden and was one of the gardens on show in last year's Open Gardens. Anda Wayland will give a talk on various gardening systems, e.g. permaculture, etc. Meet at the Hilton Town Board for directions and/or lifts at 9.15 am sharp or follow the directions from Hilton to Howick as follows: take N3 from Hilton towards Howick. Take exit No. 99 and turn left  towards Bulwer. Turn right at first road, Wilson Road and proceed to the end. At the T junction turn right towards Birnam Wood. Follow  the road for approx 5,5 kms. to No 24 Birnam Wood, which is "Malabar" Farm. The Garden Club sign will be outside. • May 21, 6pm. Howick Birding Group hosts an evening meeting - Ben Hoffman from the 'African Bird of Prey Sanctuary' will give a talk on 'Aspects of Rapture Rescue'. • May 25, 3 pm. The Pietermaritzburg Amateur Music Society (P.A.M.S.) presents a Choral and Orchestral concert. It will be held in St Mary's Church, Jabu Ndlovu (Loop) Street.
