Ex-parabat shot, killed in Bluff

A FORMER South African parabat and Durban lifeguard Mike Smith (51) was shot and killed at his home in Thommond Road, Fynnlands, on January 2.

Police in Brighton Beach confirmed the murder, which occurred at around 10.30 pm last Thursday.

A 62-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the case.

He has been charged with murder and the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The man will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today.

In a post on the SA Legion of Military Veterans — United Kingdom Facebook page, Smith’s friend, Norman Sander said: “Mike … I will miss you and your zany way of looking at and dealing with the curved balls life throws at you. RIP China.”
