Exams: Juniors play truant

2011-10-28 00:00

THE alarming trend of pupils who are bunking school during the National Senior Examinations is a cause for concern.

The KZN Education Department released a statement yesterday stating that pupils who are not writing exams must still attend classes as normal until the end of the school year.

KZN Parents’ Association chairperson Sayed Rajack said junior grade pupils misleading parents into thinking that there is no school during the grade 12 exams is a widespread problem.

In some schools teachers are also telling pupils to stay at home because they want to catch up on their marking, or no formal classes are given. Parents must be aware that their children need to be at school,” he said.

Education spokesperson Mbali Thusi warned pupils that if they bunk school under false pretences they will be dealt with and encouraged schools to keep up with their revision programmes.
