Exciting fusion of music and dance

2009-10-29 00:00

THE magical fairy tale Snow White is the inspiration for this year’s festive dance production, Snow White – A Rock Ballet, which will have two performances in early November at the Treverton Theatre in Mooi River.

Presented by Laina’s School Of Dance, the ballet has been choreographed to popular music to create a fresh and exciting fusion of music and dance.

It is the third production being staged by Hidcote resident Laina Lesnick who runs the dance school. Previous productions include Aladdin in 2005, featuring Jessica Oliver as Aladdin and Akira Badul as Princess Jasmine, and The Wizard of Oz, which played to sold-out houses at the Treverton Theatre in 2007.

Producing the show is a mammoth task as it involves getting together dancers from Lesnick’s studios in Estcourt and Mooi River.

This year’s show is being staged in memory of Jessica Dunne (n é e Oliver), who tragically died of swine flu in August this year. In 2004, this Laina’s School of Dance student won a national award for the best intermediate student in South Africa.

Snow White, the seven dwarfs, a prince, a queen, woodland animals, and even flowers and bees, promise to weave a magical night of entertainment on November 6 and 7 at the Treverton Theatre in Mooi River. Don’t miss it.

Tickets, priced at R50 each, which includes light refreshments, are available at The River Café in Mooi River, at Treverton College, or at Christine’s Gym in Estcourt. Alternatively contact Laina at 082 441 5532.
