Exco: Shooting victim mourned

2011-09-09 00:00

MSUNDUZI councillors paid tribute to a member of the SA Municipal Workers’ Union who was fatally wounded recently, during an executive committee meeting yesterday.

Musa Zungu (51), who worked in the electricity department, was shot in the head by a municipal security guard outside his house in Havelock Road during the wage strike recently and died in hospital on Tuesday.

Acting municipal manager Thokozani Maseko said they had a brief meeting to propose a date when they can pay their respects to the Zungu family.

Administrator Sibusiso Sithole said the municipality and the police are both investigating. “We need to also offer the security guard who shot the deceased some counselling.”

He said the municipality will discuss how to assist Zungu’s family.

Mayor Chris Ndlela offered his condolences and said: “We would like all parties involved to be patient until investigations are concluded.” — WR.
