Expo will show off gadgets for mom

GADGETS that make expectant mothers’ lives easier will be the focus of this year’s MamaMagic Baby Expo at the Durban Exhibition Centre.

2014 marks the 10th year that MamaMagic has been doing the rounds in the country.

This year’s theme is birthdays and the show has a range of new gadgets visitors can look forward to.

One of the newest items for pregnant women is the Pregnant iZi Fix, a car seatbelt that claims to protect both the mother and the unborn child in an accident.

Another new item is the Chicco Urban Travel System which includes a stroller, car seat, car seat adapter, internal lining for the bassinet and the rain-shield.

Former Durban woman Projeni Pather, the brains behind the project, said Durban was her favourite leg of the expo.

“Even though I live in Johannesburg, it’s always great to come home because we have such a wide market here,” said Pather.

The 42-year-old is a mother of two and hosted the first expo when her youngest child was four months old.

She said the idea for MamaMagic came after a visit to London where she had visited a similar expo.

“I realised, as a mom of two small children, that there had to be moms in South Africa who were looking for this kind of thing, and I didn’t stop until I launched the original Your Baby Show which is now MamaMagic, The Baby Expo.”
