Extreme golf, stunning stunts and side-splitting comedy

2010-12-15 00:00

YESTERDAY saw a slow start to the Wakeboarding Sessions out at Umtamvuna River Lodge, but with FeverX there is no reason for a midweek slump, and for the next two days the line-up gets a boost.

Check this out:

Today Extreme Golf is taking place at the Margate Country Club. The organisers are keeping mum as to what will make this day of golf “extreme”, but for only R200 you can play 19 holes and get a ticket to the extreme comedy line-up happening later tonight. Fabulous prizes are also up for grabs for golfing gurus.

After the golfers’ prizegiving, Joey Rasdien and Chris Forrest will take to the stage. These side-splitting comedians are best known for their television appearances: Joey in the self-styled Radical Rasdien and Chris in the Pure Monate Show. The show will take place in the main tent and tickets cost R100.

Taking place today is a full day of wakeboarding at the Umtamvuna River Lodge.

Tomorrow is jammed with the finals of the wakeboarding sessions and the start of the extreme stunt shows at Margate Sports School.

The demonstrations include FMX stunts by top SA FMX rider Shaun Blaauw, BMX bikers and skateboarders tackling the half-pipe, karate and aerobics displays.

Alongside the FMX and BMX demonstrations will be a host of market stalls as well as a food tent.

To celebrate Reconciliation Day, the entertainment tomorrow evening features South African bands Tidal Wave, who write and perform reggae with traditional African influences like maskandi and mbaqanga, and Gazelle, who are praised not just for creating a new sound — described as a mix of synth-pop, natural rhythms and a wicked bassline — but a way of life.

The concert promises to be a highlight in the week’s entertainment. Tickets are R50.
