Extreme motorbiker flies over brave ‘Witness’ journalist

2009-04-12 00:00

I took my daredevil personality to the limits at the Vodacom Easter Adrenaline beach festival when I volunteered to be apart of Brian Capper’s Extreme Riding exhibition.

Without thinking twice about this dangerous stunt, I agreed to be the person who lies on the ground while Capper leapt his motorcycle over me.

As I walked down to the area near Margate Main beach, where Capper was to perform, I was all smiles and even joked about being filmed for television. Capper had already started his show, wowing the crowd with his aerial displays.

The closer it got to the stunt involving me, the harder my heart started pounding.

As I walked to the spot, I kept thinking, “Sharlene, how do you get into these things?”. My heart was now racing and the cheering crowd made it worse.

I was given a towel to lie on and another to cover myself so that petrol from the motorcycle would not stain my clothes. I took my time getting settled in, trying to find a good reason to bail out.

“Don’t move or even flinch.” These were the words of Capper before he started his demonstration.

I decided that I would close my eyes; I had my sunglasses on so the crowd wouldn’t see. I was scared.

As I lay there, I heard Capper’s bike approaching, it was loud, but I’m sure that my heart was louder. I felt the bike fly over me several times. Then he maneouvered the bike over my head several times.

After what seemed like forever, I opened my eyes and saw Capper fly over me twice. It was awesome, and I realised what a professional he is.

When he was done and after lots of applause, Capper, ever the gentleman, extended his hand and helped me off the ground.
