F-Type heads to Hesketh

2014-06-28 00:00

KZN this week played host to the South African launch of four sleek Jaguars F-Type coupés that had heads turning from Umhlanga to the Hesketh race track in Pietermaritzburg.

Power is delivered from a range of four sonorous engines — a three-liter V6 mapped to make either 250 kW or 280 kW; and a five-liter V8 mapped to make 364 kW or 405 kW.

Jaguar is justifiably proud of its Roots-type twin vortex supercharger mounted on the ‘V’ of the engine. It boost the power in a linear line and makes high levels of torque at all engine speeds.

The top of the range F-Type R’s 405kW makes its 680 Nm torque at 3 500 rpm to go from 0-100 km/h in less than five seconds, even with two blokes on board.

The convertible costs R869 996, or R11 065 per month for buyers taking the 30% balloon payment option with a 10% deposit. The S Convertible costs R999 896 and the V8 S Convertible R1 426 111.

The Jaguar club in Pietermaritzburg, who had to travel to Umhlanga to have new Jags serviced, were glad to learn KZN’s capital will have its own Jaguar dealership from July 1, under dealer principle, Peter Caley from SMG South Coast.

Mike Fogg, MD of the company that owns the Hesketh track, said the development of a motor club and country estate at the track will finally go ahead. The plans were first announced in 2008 — “just in time for the global recession” — but Fogg said the economy “has now recovered significantly” and the track can provide the perfect setting for tourism activities for petrolhead.
