Fake TVs: Man wins appeal

2010-11-11 00:00

A SOUTH Coast businessman, Yusuf Bux, won his appeal against his conviction and sentence yesterday arising from the discovery of four counterfeit television sets on the shelves of his furniture and appliance store in December 2007.

The appeal court found the state had failed to prove that Bux knew or had any reason to believe that the goods in question were counterfeit.

The court accepted submissions by Bux’s advocate that he had bought the TV sets in question from a reputable distributor (Summer Square Electronics of Durban) and had all the relevant documentation, which he handed in.
