AMERICAN visitor Helen Strauss, who was critically injured when she was thrown off a horse near Mooi River on July 23, died on Monday morning.

Strauss and her fiancé, Edward George, who were visiting from Virginia in the United States, went for a ride while staying at Hartford House hotel.

The couple had just left the stable precinct and had put the horses into a canter up a hill when she fell.

She was rushed to Medi-Clinic Pietermaritzburg for treatment.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan said an inquest will be held.

Mick Goss, owner of Hartford House, declined to comment, citing Strauss’s family’s request for privacy.
