Fans fight it out for DJ spot

HUNDREDS of people in and around Zululand made their way to the University of Zululand, each hoping to be the next Gagasi FM DJ.

Auditions for the search for radio’s next star, a joint initiative by the KZN Premier’s office and Gagasi, were held on Monday afternoon. More auditions will be held in six towns around KZN and 12 contestants will be selected.

Contestants that made it through the Empangeni auditions are Nomfundo Mzolo (Mtubatuba), Ntombifuthi Mtshali (Empangeni) and Mandisa Ngcece (Durban).

The competition was also held in Port Shepstone at the weekend where three finalists were selected. Another six budding radio DJs will be added to the top 14 as the fifth of six auditions is set to take place in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday at the Greater Edendale Mall.

The eventual winner of KZN Premier Topstars will earn him - or herself a 12-month presenter’s contract at Gagasi, one of the country’s biggest commercial radio stations.
