Fans in a frenzy as soap stars hit pavilion

2011-02-24 00:00

HUNDREDS of adoring fans packed the Pavilion shopping centre to welcome the three cast members of The Bold and the Beautiful yesterday.

Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (who plays Steffy Forrester in the Emmy-winning series), Brandon Beemer (Owen Knight) and Jack Wagner (Nick Marone) were at the mall yesterday signing autographs and having their pictures taken by their fans.

The three are in the country to promote their show.

Adoring fans, mostly teenagers and young adults, hung onto the railings on all four floors at the Pavilion to get a glimpse of their stars.

For almost 30 minutes, the actors autographed their pictures for the fans, with many of them taking out cellphone cameras to take pictures of the stars.

Even grown men couldn’t conceal their excitement. “The stars of The Bold and the Beautiful are actually here,” said a male employee at the mall who declined to give his name.

The excitement of the fans also caused the event to be cut short as on numerous occasions they had breached the security perimeter by getting too close to the podium where the actors were appearing.

In a statement released to the media, Vukile Madlala, SABC1 PR manager said they wanted to bring the actors to their fans.

“The Bold and the Beautiful is one of SABC1’s key programs, which has managed to draw in a huge and loyal following with our television audiences over several years on the Mzansi Fo Sho screen.

“As with all the other offerings on the channel, there is an ongoing need to market, publicise and promote our properties as a way to keep them fresh and top-of-the-mind with our target audiences.

“The current marketing and publicity drive by the channel is meant to reward viewers’ loyalty by providing them with immediate, real-life access to their favorite actors and actresses.”
