Farm murder: court to give verdict today

2011-05-17 00:00

PIETERMARITZBURG high court Judge Kate Pillay, sitting with assessors, will give judgment today in the trial of a man charged with the murder of New Hanover farmer Radash Anandlall, who was shot dead at Thorn Ridge farm on the night of September 3 last year.

State advocate Pretty-Girl Ngcobo urged the court yesterday to reject the version of the accused, Jabulani Ngubane (35), that he shot the farmer accidentally and negligently during an altercation, saying this was not borne out by ballistics evidence.

Ngubane’s counsel, Seema Takchund, asked the court to take into account that an altercation did take place between the two men, that the firearm used belonged to Anandlall, and submitted it was not the only reasonable inference that when Ngubane fired he intended to kill the farmer.
