Farmer’s wife on mercy marathon

2010-11-09 00:00

THEY say women are the best multi-taskers, and a Swartberg woman is taking this attribute to new heights.

Farmer’s wife Jacqui Wells will soon lace up her takkies and hit the road to raise funds for a friend, Terry Corfe, who has been diagnosed with cancer of the lymph, lungs, liver and brain.

Wells will drop her many duties as a farmer’s wife — which includes baking and making her own jam — to trek 300 km in order to cook up the necessary funds.

She will walk from Gracelands Farm in East Griqualand to the Tropicana Hotel on the Durban beachfront in seven days, and will be stopping at various points to raise funds.

She will be covering between 20 km and 40 km a day.

Corfe, of Underberg, has been diagnosed with a virulent spreading melanoma cancer, which is at an advanced stage.

His medical aid has refused to pay for the primary drugs recommended by his oncologist, which sees him begin chemotherapy treatment with a reduced chance of success.

Each cycle of treatment costs about R200 000 and includes medication and six days in hospital.

People who wish to help Corfe, should deposit funds into the Underberg FNB branch: account number 58870005651; account name Sani Round Table Projects; branch code 221025; reference “Terry”.
