Fatal hijacking: couple held

2009-06-25 00:00

A DURBAN couple were arrested yesterday in connection with the murder of a Johannesburg man who was shoved in the boot of his car during a hijacking last week.

Dexter Govender died after he was hijacked with his brother and two friends in Lenasia South in Johannesburg last Thursday. The hijackers shoved the men into the boot of the Toyota Corolla and drove to Durban. There, the hijackers abandoned the vehicle in the city centre and stole the victims’ cellphones and bank cards.

Police spokesman Superintendent Vincent Mdunge said a man and woman were arrested in Sydenham yesterday. It is believed that the man was hiding under the bed when police arrived at the house they were living in.

The couple will be charged with murder, kidnapping and hijacking. They are expected to appear in a Johannesburg court tomorrow. — WR.
