Feeling up a book of nudes

2010-04-17 00:00

NEW YORK — A book of nudes for the blind has been launched with explicit text and raised pictures of naked men and women.

The book, Tactile Minds by Lisa Murphy, includes raised images of a naked woman in a “disco pose”, a woman with “perfect breasts” and a “male love robot”.

Murphy says the book fills a gap in the market. “There are no books of tactile pictures of nudes for adults.

“We’re breaking new ground. Playboy has an edition with Braille wording, but there are no pictures.”

She said the idea for the book came after realising the “blind have been left out in a culture saturated with sexual images”.

Between 1970 and 1985 Playboy printed copies of its magazine in Braille, but without raised pictures.
