Festival: Drizzle forces matches to be suspended at Alex and Hilton

2013-01-11 00:00

PLAY began in warm conditions at both the Alex and Hilton festivals and players would then have enjoyed the cooler overcast conditions that followed. Unfortunately, drizzle set in at Hilton and all play was suspended before lunch.

Justin Rowe-Roberts from Bishops followed his century on the first day with 56 against College, as Bishops scored at about 4,5 runs an over.

Peterhouse applied themselves much more competently with the bat against Hilton and this match would have had an interesting finish.

Negpen from Uplands was another batsman to follow his first day’s score of 84 with 69 against Kearsney.

The games at Alex and at Howick were a little longer as the drizzle came a little later and two games managed to get results. A surprising result was the Alex Invitation side beating Howick, who had looked invincible in their first two matches.

St Charles Colts, after being bowled out for just 72, was able to bowl Lilyfontein out for just 28, where William Squires captured 7 wickets.

Kevin Kendall-Ball captured 5 for 27 and followed with 42 runs against Treverton before the rain came.

Matthew Webb captured 5 wickets against the Invitation XI and Sphesihle Masanago did the same to give his side the surprise win. Selby Shongwe took four of the other 5 wickets required.
