Few schools in season opener

2010-09-11 00:00

THE official KZN schools’ cricket season begins today with only a few schools playing. The visits of both St Andrews and St Stithians over the last two weeks saw a number of friendly matches played.

Three of the KZN schools, Maritzburg College, St Charles and Kearsney, are participating in the Sahara T20 Festival at St Davids in Johannesburg so they will not be involved with domestic matches, although the other Kearsney teams will be playing Glenwood and the other College teams play DHS.

Michaelhouse will be hosting Westville and today’s outcome is in the air as they did not play during the early part of the year or achieve definitive results against schools they played against in common, other than a similar loss against Glenwood.

The other main game is at Hilton where they play against Northwood. They did play one another on the first Saturday of the term, when Hilton won relatively easily. Hilton will have an added advantage as they had a tour to England during the winter break.

DHS travel to the midlands to play against Howick. The latter had some good results in their normal fixtures and they will be keen to give their Durban visitors a good tussle.

The only other game is a local derby at Weston who play their neighbours from across the Mooi, Treverton. The latter, after winning in the first term, will be keen to do the double against Weston.

Fixtures in brief: Michaelhouse vs Westville, Hilton vs Northwood, Howick vs DHS, Weston vs Treverton
