Few tickets remain for Hilton Arts

2011-09-17 00:00

WHILE some shows at The Witness Hilton Arts Festival have completely sold out, there are still some tickets available for those heading to the festival today and tomorrow.

Matthew Hurt’s new play Sailing Somewhere, starring Fiona Ramsay, has its premiere at the festival and a few seats can still be booked.

The show tells the story of a cruise ship singer, who is counting down the days until the ship docks.

Between cabaret sets in the Starlight Bar, the oblivion of too much booze and observing the antics of passengers and crew, she is forced to confront a painful dilemma — whether or not to be reunited with her estranged daughter.

Sailing Somewhere can be seen in the Grindrod Bank Theatre at 8.30 pm tonight and at 3 pm tomorrow. Tickets are R145.

Other shows with a smattering of tickets available include the satirical gem Bar Flies in the Memorial Hall at 7 pm on Saturday and 10 am on Sunday (tickets R110); KickStArt Theatre Company’s wicked black comedy God of Carnage, in the Grindrod Bank Theatre at 5.30 pm on Sunday (tickets R140); the award-winning holocaust drama, The Timekeepers, in the Grindrod Bank Theatre at 1 pm today and 12.30 pm tomorrow; Creative Madness’s fun shows for the little ones, Rumplestiltskin, Froggie Fairy Tale and Great Big Enormous Turnip; and the fabulously frothy music revues Getting Our Act Together, starring Anthony Stonier and Marion Louden; Unhinged and Uncorked, starring Stonier and Karen Campbell-Gillies ; Born to Diva, starring Tonya Koenderman; and The Future is Behind Us, starring Rob and Garth Warren, all runnnig in the Art School.

Tickets are also selling fast for the concert by the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School in the chapel on Sunday at 10 am, and for The Last Night of the Hilton Proms at the same venue at 6 pm tonight — but classical music fans need not despair, they can still book seats for the Music Revival concerts in the chapel, if they hurry.
