Fight: monkey, robbers pounce

2010-09-21 00:00

A MOTORIST had a hard time fighting off a monkey and two armed men during a failed hijacking in Durban yesterday afternoon.

It was reported that the vervet monkey mysteriously gained entry into the man’s vehicle at about 2 pm on Queen Mary Avenue in Glenwood. While he was battling to get the animal out of his vehicle two armed men approached with the aim of hijacking him.

The man, believed to be in his 70s, put up a fight against his three attackers until he got them out of his vehicle.

Later all the attackers fled the scene, leaving the man with severe head injuries.

Netcare911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks said the man was taken to St Augustine’s Hospital.

Wicks said the two men hit the man in the face with their weapon.

He said paramedics and police attended to the incident.

Police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said police are not aware of the incident.
