Finance: Advisers at the Pavilion

2012-12-01 00:00

MAKING the right short- and long-term financial decisions — particularly at this time of year — often requires help of experts.

Luckily for KZN residents who feel that they need assistance, help is at hand this weekend at the Pavilion Shopping Centre in Westville — thanks to the efforts of the Financial Planning Institute (FPI).

Godfrey Nti, the FPI’s CEO, told Weekend Witness that certified financial planners will be doing pro bono work as part of the FPI’s community service initiatives.

The FPI will also set up an exhibition at the Checkers court in the Pavilion from 9 am to 4 pm today and tomorrow.

“Many of our members are willing to provide advice and expertise at no cost through these initiatives.

“It’s a complex industry and consumers need help in navigating through the industry,” said Nti.

He stressed that advisers will be on hand to give genuine advice rather than to sell a specific product.

Nti hopes that consumers will eventually make the transition from immediate financial management to savings and investments.

He added that more than 200 advisers across the country have already volunteered to be part of the organisation’s programme.
