Fired up amaJimbos ‘stand on threshold of greatness’ in Egypt

2014-09-25 00:00

THE amaJimbos left for Egypt last night sounding very bullish about their prospects of qualifying for the CAF African Youth championships scheduled for Niger next year.

The national U17 football squad and technical team were addressed by Safa president Danny Jordaan at the team hotel on Tuesday evening, who reminded them that they stand on the threshold of “something historic and great”.

“Only eight teams qualify for the championships in Niger and four will qualify for the World Cup in Chile; having come this far, why would you want to look back?” asked Jordaan. “Go all the way and make names for yourselves and your careers.”

Coach Molefi Ntseki said they had done enough preparations, had psyched themselves for this huge encounter and that the coming 90 minutes stood between failure and greatness.

“We’ve come this far and can’t afford to drop the ball. We have travelled this far and there is no looking back. We want to be in Niger next year that is a fact; we are going to fight to the bitter end in Egypt mark my words,” said Ntseki.

Captain Nelson Maluleke, who scored the second goal in the first leg’s 2-1 win over the North Africans last week in Rustenburg, also sounded positive ahead of Saturday’s encounter which kicks off at 7 pm local time.

“The boys are so fired up. They can’t wait for Saturday. They are so psyched up, they can’t wait to have this match done and dusted,” said the attacking midfielder.
