Fireworks: SPCA on standby

2013-05-24 00:00

THE SPCA will be on standby at the Royal Show tonight to offer help with livestock during the fireworks display.

The pyrotechnics, to celebrate Pietermaritzburg’s 175th anniversary and to coincide with the official opening of the Royal Show, will take place between 6.20 pm and 7 pm and last for no longer than 15 minutes.

SPCA spokesperson Maureen Vida said CEO of the Royal Agricultural Society (RAS), Terry Strachan, had assured the SPCA there would be few animals on site during the display and enough personnel to look after them. The RAS has advertised the display, urging residents to take care of their pets.

Vida said: “We ask that residents in Pietermaritzburg take all necessary precautions to ensure that their pets are safe and secure during this period.”

The SPCA emergency number is 083 627 9736.
