First lady plays Mother Christmas

2010-12-03 00:00

THOBEKA Madiba-Zuma, the wife of President Jacob Zuma, visited Port Shepstone Regional Hospital yesterday to hand out toys to sick and bed-ridden children with Christmas just a few weeks away.

SA’s first lady was lending her support to the East Coast Radio (ECR) Toy Story campaign that has seen the radio station raise money and collect toys to give to needy families and children over the Christmas period.

Madiba-Zuma was joined by a team of delegates, ECR’s Cameron Claasens and employees from the hospital, who sang songs of praise and worship as they made their way through the children’s ward, ensuring that each child was given a gift.

She thanked the hospital for allowing her to be a part of the initiative. “I am so humbled to be here to bring toys to the little ones and let them know that they are not forgotten,” she said.

After handing out the toys, Madiba-Zuma and the ECR team moved on to hand out toys to children at Murchison Hospital.

She visited G.J. Crookes Hospital outside Scottburgh before arriving at Shepstone Regional.
