First wine, lifestyle festival in KwaMashu

VIBRANT KwaMashu will this weekend rock to a new beat with the first ever Wine and Lifestyle Festival to be hosted there.

Fourteen of South Africa’s leading wineries will be showcasing their produce at the event, with Busi Yende, manager of the Northern Cape Wine Academ, guiding visitors through wine and food pairing.

“We are incredibly excited to launch the inaugural festival here, which will present South Africa’s finest wines to our KwaMashu residents and visitors,” said Mark Robinson, Spar Group liquor manager.

“This festival promises to be a five- star event on the KZN calendar and it all starts here.”

Last week, KwaMashu-born actress Leleti Khumalo, comedian David Kau and 5FM presenter Mzokoloko Mtshele attended the unveiling of refurbished K-CAP Ekhaya Multi Arts Centre, which will be home to the festival.

“It feels amazing to see how this place has changed and grown. This event is going to bring it to life and keep the fire in KwaMashu burning. People are taking charge of their own lives,” said Mtshele.

Organiser Sharon Cooper believes this event is going to put this sprawling township on the map. “We are shining a light on the talent of this area, pairing up the best wine with the hottest music,” said Cooper.”

The DJ line-up includes DJ Euphonik and DJ LeSoul on Friday night, with DJ Vumar and DJ Sonic on the decks on Saturday.

“KwaMashu has changed so much and in a good way,” said Leleti Khumalo, star of Sarafina.

• Tickets at R150 each are available through Webtickets. Only 1 000 tickets are available per night.
