2008-02-20 00:00

FIVE teenagers were killed when a bakkie driven by a 15-year-old overturned near Estcourt on Monday afternoon.

The teen and a group of friends were driving to collect sand for the bakkie’s owner when a tyre burst and the bakkie overturned into a ditch.

Three teenagers died at the scene and six were injured, of whom two later died.

Captain Dolf Otto of the SAPS Collision Unit said the 15-year-old was arrested for driving without a licence and will be charged with culpable homicide.

Zinhle Mngomezulu of the Transport Department said the bakkie owner will be charged for allowing the teen to drive it.

The bakkie was declared unroadworthy.
