Five-wicket hauls for KZN U19 pair

2009-12-05 00:00

THIS weekend sees a number of the KZN Inland school sides having practice matches before they head off to the National Weeks at the end of next week.

The Under-19 side had a practice match last weekend against Griquas on the Maritzburg Oval and some players did very well in beating the visitors. Both Nathan Roberts (Hilton) and Cedric Savage (Maritzburg College) took five-wicket hauls, Roberts in Griquas’ first innings and Savage in the second innings. Gareth Roderick (College) was the top Inland scorer with captain Matt Hulett (St Charles) taking wickets and making runs. This weekend they are due to play the Coastals XI on the Oval.

The Under-17 Inland side play in a two-day game against the newly selected Kingsmead Mynahs XI on the Eston Oval starting this morning. The Mynahs side is selected by a committee after the Inland and Coastal sides have been selected. They include boys who would have missed out on provincial selection and are coming back to school in 2010. As the Mynahs do not need to bother about quotas and they choose one side from both KZN areas, they can be very strong. This will be a very good test for the Under- 17 Inland team.

The Under-15 Inland team is playing at St Charles against their counterparts from Coastals.

Josh Perry (captain)-Kearsney, Grove Venter-Glenwood, Aeron Ivey-Westville, William Bruce-Westville, Devlin Dolan-St Charles, Ryan Schlanders-St Charles, Cody Mortimer-Howick, Greg Ford-St Charles, Khalifa Cele-Northwood, Matt Tweedle-St Charles, John Grewar-DHS, Richard Atherstone-Michaelhouse
