KZN premier S’bu Ndebele joined Maritzburg United’s list of well wishers and congratulated them for regaining promotion back to the PSL.

United defeated FC AK 2-0 in the second leg of the PSL promotional play-off at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday.

“This is indeed a very special victory for both Pietermaritzburg and the province. We are extremely excited that United will now compete in the country’s top soccer league again. If United builds on this foundation, we are certain that they will also do well in the PSL,” said Ndebele.

District Mayor Yusuf Bhamjee said United’s victory announced that the district is on the right track for 2010.

Msunduzi Deputy Mayor Mervyn Dirks praised United’s eagerness to return to the PSL. He appealed to city residents to put their full support behind the Team of Choice next season.

President of the Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business, Zinhle Sokhela, said although the economy is not doing well United’s promotion to the PSL will help boost the city’s economy.

“I watched the game live and it showed that the team and the coach worked hard for this. This is our team and it requires our support,” Sokhela added.

Municipal manager Rob Haswell congratulated the entire club, particularly owners the Kadodia brothers, on the achievement. He said the city is rapidly taking its rightful place in the country in terms of economic and now sporting activity.
