Food programme tenders set aside

2014-04-08 00:00

A HIGH court order was granted yesterday setting aside 10 tenders awarded by the Department of Education in respect of its nutrition programme for needy pupils.

The court order was granted in a case brought against the department late last year by Primazane Trading CC, several school governing bodies and the National Teacher’s Union.

Primazane Trading asked the high court to review the manner in which the department awarded certain tenders in respect of the programme over which there are ongoing complaints about corruption, and sub-standard and inadequate service delivery.

In terms of a court order granted yesterday, the tenders awarded by the department in respect of Indleyamandla Primary, Insukingi Kahle Primary, Siyangempumelelo Secondary, Phikwase High, Ngogoma Primary and Pophomeni Primary schools at Ulundi, Inxamalala Primary School at Greytown, and Ivungu High, Ceza Primary and Mnyamana High schools in Zululand, were set aside.

The department, which did not oppose the application, was ordered to pay the costs of the application.
