Footballers take on the ball flingers

THE KZN Inland Premier 50 competition comes down to the wire this weekend, but before that there’s a fun T20 match dubbed the “Battle of the Balls” between the KZN Inland first XI and the Maritzburg United footballers.

The weekend kicks off at 4 pm today at the PMB Oval, when Standard take on Midlands in the final of the KFC Inter-City T20 competition.

Following that expected tight affair comes the hit-and-giggle showdown between the footballers and the leather flingers.

Battle of the Balls is expected to draw a sizeable crowd of football and cricket fans.

Spectators are encouraged to “bring and braai”, and there is to be a fireworks display. Entrance is R5 per person with free entry for schoolchildren in school uniform. Parking costs R10 per car.

Tomorrow’s KZN Inland Premier 50 action sees Standard up against Zingari at Wanderers Club and Midlands hosting Young Natalians in Richmond, while Sunday’s fare is sure to produce exciting cricket.

The KZN Coastal Premier 50 competition sees Crusaders topping the log with 67 points, followed by DHS Rhythm on 55 points and Chatsworth Sporting on 54 points.

Tomorrow — KZN Inland Premier 50: Standard vs Zingari (Wanderers); Midlands vs Young Natalians (Richmond).

Sunday — KZN Inland Premier 50: Varsity vs Young Natalians (Varsity); Midlands vs Zingari (Eston); Lancashire vs Standard (Woodlands).


KZN Coastal Premier 50: Crusaders 278 for nine (East Springer 61, Christopher Young 63, Andile Phehlukwayo 9-0-37-3); African Warriors 97 (Fisokuhle Mazibuko 44, Jason Biddulph 9-1-26-3, Kyle Hodnett 8.5-1-20-5). Crusaders won by 181 runs.

Berea Rovers 205 (Byron Whatmore 54, Ryan Reeves 10-0-41-3, Shaun Rampersad 10-2-34-3). Topham 107 (Calvin Savage 43, Kyle Buckthorpe 3.4-1-8-3, Brandon Scullard 6-0-23-4). Berea Rovers won by 98 runs.

Chatsworth Sporting 149 (Shastri Pillay 10-3-30-4). Chatsworth United 81 (Vyash Gobind 8-1-9-3). Chatsworth Sporting won by 63 runs.

Delta 139 (Husain Badat 44). Pinetown 87 (Yuvan Maharaj 10-1-23-3, Usman Arshad 7.5-3-12-3). Delta won by 52 runs.

DHS Rhythm 164 (Grant Hodnett 50, Ruan van Rensburg 7-0-34-3, Trevor Kietzmann 8-3-21-4). Uthungulu 80 (Eugene Zwart 30, Kyle Moolman 8-1-21-4, Tshepo Moreki 6-2-10-3). DHS Rhythm won by 84 runs.
