Football’s bad boy fails to pay school

2010-05-25 00:00

A LOCAL primary school has accused football bad boy Mbulelo “Old John” Mabizela of failing to pay for repairs to the damage he caused while allegedly drunk.

A fence at Panorama Primary School was damaged when Mabizela’s big black Chrysler smashed into it in June 2008.

The footballer was not driving, but a witness said he was standing on the seat with his head through the sunroof, dancing. When he tried to sit down, he bumped the driver, who then hit the fence.

It was alleged that the group had been drinking.

The chairperson of the school’s governing body, Themba Dlamini, said the footballer’s mother, Mamazane Mabizela, came to the school soon after the accident and promised that he would pay for the repairs, which amounted to R2 000. However, she has not been seen since, Dlamini said.

He said the school is vulnerable to intruders.

“They are not coming up to pay for the damages. His mother had promised to come back to the school after she had gone there to assess the damages.

“We last spoke to her on the day she was at the school, about a week after the accident,” he added.

At the time of the incident, Mabizela was earning about R80 000 a month at Mamelodi Sundowns, before the team fired him for bad behaviour. He now plays for Platinum Stars.

“If the Mabizelas fail to pay we will have to ask parents to raise the money to repair the damage,” said Dlamini.

Attempts to contact the player and his mother failed yesterday.
