FORMER ANC KwaZulu-Natal deputy secretary and member of the KZN Legislature Mbuso Kubheka died in an accident over the weekend.
Kubheka was travelling along the R23 in his Mercedes Benz from Mpumalanga to his Newcastle home in northern KZN on Saturday night when he was involved in an accident.
The ANC in the province said the death had once again snatched away one of its best assets.
ANC provincial secretary Sihle Zikalala said: “Comrade Mbuso Khubeka played an instrumental role in building structures of the movement in eMalahleni Region and the surrounding areas”.
Kubheka, a well-trained and seasoned cadre, “was one of our comrades who rose rapidly through the ranks of the ANC Youth League”, said Zikalala.
He served in the ANC Youth League in the Midlands region before becoming part of the first ANCYL KZN provincial executive committee in 1995.
“Kubheka’s outstanding leadership in the ANCYL first saw him being elected as the regional chairperson of eMalahleni Region and in 2004 he was elected as the ANC deputy provincial secretary in KwaZulu-Natal, a position he held until 2008.”
Kubheka also served as chairperson of the local government and traditional affairs portfolio committee.
Zikalala added that Kubheka also served in the KZN Legislature where he displayed remarkable leadership skills and made great contributions in legislative processes in ensuring meaningful public participation in the legislature’s programmes.
The ANC sent its heartfelt condolences to his family, relatives and to the entire membership of the ANC especially in the eMalahleni Region.
