Former PMB schoolboy stars turn out for KZN Inland and Coastal

2012-10-04 00:00

AFTER much pre-season training, the two KwaZulu-Natal first-class cricket teams in the CSA Provincial Competition, Inland and Coastal, begin their campaigns away from home today.

The respective three-day matches are from today to Saturday, with Sunday featuring the limited-over encounters.

Inland’s new coach Grant Morgan has named a squad of 16 to take on Eastern Province in Port Elizabeth and the same group have also been selected to do duty against Western Province the following weekend in Cape Town.

Kyle Nipper will captain the Inland team once again and he has a number of new players in the side, including former St Charles schoolboy star Bradley Moses, a long-serving Inland top-order batsman who spent last season at Easterns and now returns to the Inland fold.

Other new faces include former St Charles captain and outstanding batter Mathew Hulett, who comes back to Inland from KZN Coastal.

Another familiar face is Yusuf Abdullah, the left-arm paceman who was such a threat when in prime of form for the KZN Dolphins a few seasons ago.

Coastal play Boland in Paarl and feature the likes of Dolphins batsmen Ahmed Amla, Cameron Delport and left-arm seamer Mthokozisi Shezi.

The team also features South African U19 captain Chad Bowes and former Maritzburg College captain and Bowes’s national team-mate, Calvin Savage.

For both Morgan and new Coastal coach Rivash Gobind it’s their debut first-class match with new teams and the pair will be looking for positive outcomes to set their charges on course for productive seasons.
