Foul: Teen uses hockey stick on intruder

2012-04-09 00:00

A TEENAGER used a hockey stick to chase off a man who attacked her after breaking into her home in Huntley Road, Pietermaritzburg, yesterday morning.

The 18-year-old, whose parents had gone to church for an Easter Sunday service, was at home alone when she found herself face to face with her would-be attacker between 9 am and 9.30 am.

But when she grabbed her hockey stick and hit him with it, the man fled, taking the victim’s cellphone with him.

The victim was shocked but unharmed, police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said.

A case of attempted rape and house robbery had been opened.

According to the SAPS report, the attacker was slender, with a dark complexion and short hair.

He was wearing blue overalls and a cap at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information or who might have seen the man in the Huntley Road area is asked to phone Crimestoppers at 086 001 0111.
