Four schools to compete in Football Stars KZN final

THE provincial final of the Copa Coca-Cola Football Stars tournament kicks off in KwaZulu-Natal this weekend, with four schools vying for a place in the national finals.

The football action will start at 9 am tomorrow at the SJ Smith Stadium in Wema, near Umlazi.

“With “2010 fever” gripping the country, this is the opportunity for our youngsters to compete in their own tournament,” said Sammy Mohlaoli, senior communications manager of Coca-Cola SA.

It introduced the Copa Coca-Cola Football Stars tournament in 2004 to develop the talent of youngsters in the under-18 age group.

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Siyabonga Xulu — who has been selected for the Bafana Bafana training camp in Brazil — is the latest player from the project to turn professional.

In KwaZulu-Natal, the four school teams who have made their way through the preliminary stage are Uxolo Phambili, Thalane, Kwaphatha and Kya Sands.

The team that emerges victorious tomorrow will represent KwaZulu- Natal at the national finals.

An added incentive is that they stand to win big prizes for their schools and communities.
